At the end of June, several members of the Circuit Media Job Corps Student-Centered Design team, including Sonita Lal, Jessica Smith, Jordyn Lang, and Katrina Matthews traveled to the Pittsburgh Job Corps center to conduct a center-wide training on the upcoming Student-Centered Design Initiative.
The training lasted three days and taught both staff members and students the core values of design thinking and how it can be used to create a campus culture that puts the students at the front of every focus. The lessons learned from the training will be used over the next 8-12 weeks, in which a smaller team from the center will work through the five phases of the design thinking process to come up with innovative ways to create positive changes that will not only be shared with their own center but also with the entire Job Corps community.
The team had so much fun getting to know everyone at the center and is excited to walk through every step of this experience with them. This training was the first of three that will be conducted this summer; the team is currently preparing to head to Iowa next week to train the Ottumwa Job Corps center and they can’t wait to get started!
